Summer Teen Evening Program |
North Plainfield Police Department Press Release Chief William Parenti June 23, 2011
North Plainfield Police Chief William G. Parenti is pleased to announce that the Borough’s STEP, (Summer Teen Evening Program), is set to begin on Tuesday, June 28, at Stony Brook School at 269 Grove Street. The program will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The program allows borough youth to gather in a safe and secure environment for pickup basketball games, soccer, and conversation. Refreshments are also provided. Funding for the program is provided by the Municipal Alliance and the Youth Services Commission. Volunteers from these organizations and personnel from the Board of Education and the Police Department are always present. This year will be the program’s 12th year in operation and is a huge success. We usually have about 50 youth attend and on some nights we have had as many as 75, it’s a great example of community organizations and the Borough’s youth coming together. The program is an effort correct to an age-old problem. Our young people have no place to go so they end up standing on street corners. We are very proud to provide a safe place for our youth to have fun and interact with police officers. Together we build a mutual respect, Chief Parenti said. The program will run every Tuesday and Thursday, from June 28 to August 18, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The program culminates on the last night, August 18, which will be a barbecue style picnic. All borough teens are welcome to attend.
