Somerset County Senior Centers Celebrate Older Americans Month |
The Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services is joining in the national celebration of Older Americans Month by sponsoring special programs and activities throughout May. The 2012 theme, “Never Too Old to Play,” encourages older adults to stay engaged, active and involved in their communities. In honor of this year’s theme, Somerset County Senior Centers are inviting active older adults to a ‘playful’ competition in May. In addition to the inherent benefits that come from socializing and exercising minds and bodies, seniors will be awarded “attendance points” when they participate in programs that are marked with a smiley face J in the schedule below. More points will be awarded for attending programs on days in May when the center is being highlighted; see dates marked in bold. At the end of the month, each of the centers will award a prize to the individual with the most attendance points. The Office on Aging and Disability Services will then hold a drawing that includes the prize winners representing each of the seven senior centers. The prize for the drawing will be awarded to the winning senior center. All programs in the schedule begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Please call for lunch reservations by 10 a.m. the day before you wish to come. For more information about activities, contact the appropriate center.
