Announces June 14 Public Information Center  

Public input sought on potential improvements

SOMERVILLE – A Public Information Center for the Route 22 Sustainable Corridor Long Term Improvements project will be held Thursday, June 14.

The information session will run from 4 to 8 p.m. in the third-floor freeholders’ meeting room of the Somerset County Administration Building at 20 Grove St .  Free parking is available in the adjacent Bernie Field Parking Deck; the entrance is off East High Street. 

Staff from the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Somerset County will be on hand to present the work completed to date, answer questions and take comments.  The meeting will include a short presentation at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., summarizing the work done on the project, including a description of the improvement concepts under consideration.

The Route 22 Sustainable Corridor Improvements Project will develop long-term improvements to Route 22 in Bridgewater between the Route 202/206 and Interstate 287 interchanges.  This section of Route 22 carries approximately 88,000 vehicles a day and reports approximately 270 crashes per year.  Some sections of the study area experience crash rates five times the statewide average for similar facilities. This portion of Route 22 is west of the Chimney Rock Road interchange project now underway.

“Residents, commuters and anyone interested in helping to shape corridor improvements are encouraged to attend the public meeting to learn more about the project and provide their input,” said Freeholder Patrick Scaglione, county engineering liaison.

In addition to the public meeting, a project website –  www.route22corridor.info – also is available. The website provides an easy-to-use interface where residents can get information on the progress of the study, be kept informed about upcoming events and provide feedback to the project team.
