The Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services has announced its March senior center schedule. All programs in the schedule begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted.  Please call for lunch reservations by 10 a.m. at least one business day before you wish to come. Learn basic steps to help prevent or slow down the complications of diabetes.  They will provide easy, tasty recipes and simple meal and snack suggestions.)

March 13 – “Planning a Butterfly Garden” by the Somerset County Park Commission, 10:30 am (A naturalist will explain which native plants attract native butterflies and moths so you can create your own butterfly garden at home.)

March 15 – Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration & Annual Bake Sale Fundraiser, 10:30 am (The luck of the Irish is not needed today!  Enjoy lunch and special entertainment by the Davis Academy of Irish Dancers.  During the celebration, the Senior Wellness Center will hold its annual bake sale to raise funds for this year’s programs and activities.)

March 22 – “How to Protect Yourself Against Mail Fraud” by the United States Postal Inspection Service, 10:30 am (Learn about mail scams targeted at seniors including foreign lottery fraud as well as what to do if you think you have been a victim of mail fraud.)

March 26 – Easter Egg Dip & Design, 10:30 am (It’s that time a year again!  Join us today to design your own Easter eggs to take home using various craft materials.)

March 27 – “Medication Management & Poison Education” by the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System, 10:30 am (The New Jersey Information and Education System will conduct an informative presentation on the importance of managing your medications properly to avoid accidental poisoning  and will heighten your awareness of the dangers in the home such as certain household cleaners and carbon monoxide.)

Lynch, President, Somerset County Chapter, Society for Financial Awareness, 11:30-2:00 pm (If you want to learn more about current tax changes, instead of just guessing, then this is just a must program for you.  The cost is $5.00 for attendees over 60 and $10.00 for attendees under 60.  Advanced reservations are required by Friday, March 8.)

March 15 – “Spellbound” – Movie Discussion and Trivia by Jennifer Konopacki, Librarian, Somerset County Library System, Warren Branch, 10:15-1:00 pm (Spellbound (1945) is a psychological mystery thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock.  It tells the story of the new head of a mental asylum who turns out not to what he claims and a psychologist who falls for a suspect in a murder, which she tries to solve by unlocking clues hidden in his mind.  The film stars Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, Michael Chekhov and Leo G. Carroll.  After viewing the movie, we will discuss the movie and share some trivia.  The transportation van will depart the center at 1:00 pm for the trip home.)

March 18 – Passover “Seder” Meal with Adrienne, 10:30 am (Passover is celebrated with a highly symbolic Seder meal.  As a group, we will be also making Charoset (chopped walnuts, grated apples, cinnamon and grape juice).  You do not have to be Jewish to attend because Warrenbrook Senior Center demonstrates its commitment to welcoming and valuing people of all faiths and backgrounds by hosting opportunities to learn about each other’s’ practices and cultures.  Due to time restrains, Adrienne will be offering an abbreviated version of the prayer meal.  Lunch reservations must be made prior to Thursday, March 14.)
