Multiple Car Fires In Front Of East End School |
North Plainfield Police Department Press Release On December 4, 2013 at approximately 2:38pm North Plainfield police responded to the area of 170 Oneida Avenue on the report of a vehicle on fire in the roadway. Upon arrival I observed the vehicle (NJ Reg#R98BNY, 2001 Mazda Van) parked just south of East End School on the east side of the street. The vehicle was fully engulfed. North Plainfield Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. A second vehicle was damaged (NJ Reg# WXX67A, 2000 Mitsubishi Montero) which was parked in front of the engulfed vehicle. It sustained rear damage from the fire. Both vehicles were towed by H & H Towing. The driver of the vehicle which caught fire, Magdalena Sailema stated she did not know what occurred. She also related that she had the oil changed on the vehicle just hours prior to this event. The fire occurred at dismissal time for Eastend School. The children were held up until the fire was extinguished about 15 minutes. Patrol officers then directed the parents to their children and blocked off the area to keep all safe.
