The senior centers operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services have announced the December program schedule.  Note: All centers will be closed on Dec. 12, 19, 24 and 25. All programs begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise listed. Please call for lunch reservations by 10 a.m. the day before you wish to come. For more information, contact the appropriate centers.

December 10 – “Coffee From Around the World” by Laurie Laughney, 10:30 am (This coffee lover’s workshop covers how different types of coffee have played a role in the history of the world.  Learn interesting tidbits about “cowboy coffee” including how to make it).

December 11 – Annual Holiday Party with Performance by the Harp to Harp Ensemble, 10:30 am (Come celebrate the holidays with us!  The Harp to Harp Ensemble will delight us with an educational program about the harp followed by beautiful live music).

December 13 – The Total Brain Workout: Verbal Thinking, 10:30 am (This is the ninth session in the interactive series.  The left hemisphere of the brain is responsible for how we produce and understand sounds, words and sentences.  The puzzles in this chapter are designed to stimulate and sharpen these language areas of our brains).

December 16 – “The Life & Music of George Gershwin” with Dan Colodner, 10:30 am (Enjoy the piano music of Dan Colodner as he explores the life and music of this famous American composer and pianist).

December 18 – Holiday Greed Game, 10:30 am (It’s all in the name of fun!  Great gifts are wrapped and placed on a table.  You pick one, unwrap it and the next person in numerical order can choose their gift from the table or take yours!  The game goes around and around until everyone has taken a turn and ends up with a gift).

December 20 – Cranberry Avocado Salsa Tasting, 10:30 a.m. (Try a new spin on salsa with heart-healthy avocado and juicy cranberries.  This easy recipe will be a new holiday favorite!)

December 4 – Annual Holiday Party with Entertainment by Sophistication, 10:30-2:30 pm (In the morning, Jean Marie Fusco will lead us in a variety of party games and Christmas caroling.  We will enjoy a special lunch and then dance the afternoon away with Jean Marie becoming a DJ and entertainer.  Advanced reservations are required by Tuesday, November 26.  County transportation will depart the center at 2:00 pm.  Due to the late departure, the A&P shopping trip will be cancelled).

December 6 – “White Christmas” Movie Discussion and Trivia with Catherine DeBerry, Adult Services Librarian, Somerset County Library System, Warren Branch, 10:15 am (White Christmas (1954) is a warm, nostalgic movie that is one of the all-time great musicals.  Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye star in the Christmas classic as a couple of veterans who form a singing duo.  Smitten by another singing pair played by Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen, the guys tag along on the girls’ trip to a Vermont Lodge to perform a holiday show.)  After viewing the movie, we will discuss the movie and share some movie trivia.  The transportation van will depart the center at 12:45 for the return trip home).
