North Plainfield Police Department Press Release Chief William Parenti August 4 , 2014 North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced that the North Plainfield Police Department, in conjunction with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident in the borough. At 5:33 am, the North Plainfield Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Route 22 and West End Avenue in North Plainfield. Responding police units found citizens tending to the pedestrian; the pedestrian was subsequently transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. The pedestrian was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. His identity is being withheld until notification of next of kin. The operator of the motor vehicle, Daniel Givens Jr, 61 years of age, of North Plainfield has not been charged with any violations at this time. The North Plainfield Fire Department and Mercy 6 Paramedics from JFK Hospital responded. The New Jersey Department of Transportation also responded to divert traffic while the investigation was being conducted. Chief Parenti said the investigation is still active and on-going.
