North Plainfield Police Department Press Release Chief William Parenti July 27 , 2015 North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti is pleased to announce that the Department’s Annual National Night Out against crime celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 4, from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm in the municipal parking lot across from the Municipal Building at 263 Somerset Street, North Plainfield. This year will be the event’s 12th anniversary and plans to be very exciting. We invite all residents at no cost, to enjoy the DJ, have a hot dog, hamburger, Italian ice and or soft beverage with their local police officers. My thanks the North Plainfield PBA, for providing the funding needed to keep the event free to our residents. Chief Parenti said. We have several special features for our youth this year. · Party favors tee shirts for the community’s children. · Balloon sculptures and face painting for the kids · A cartoonist will be drawing caricatures · Static display of public safety emergency equipment from the North Plainfield Police · Fire Trucks and handouts for the North Plainfield Fire Department · The Somerset County Office of Emergency Management’s Command Post · Members of the Somerset County tactical dive/rescue team · Members of the Somerset County Emergency Response Team · Safeguard Document Shredding of Manalapan, New Jersey. Borough residents will be permitted to bring at no cost two shopping bags of private paper they would like shredded to safeguard against identity theft · EmpowerSomerset with a booth on the dangers of underage drinking. They will let people experience the consequences of alcohol misuse and abuse with the use of intoxi-goggles. These special googles allows the wearer to experience a realistic simulation of impairment · Somerset Child Protection and Permanency will have a booth · Our Crime Prevention Officers will be there to handouts and pamphlets and answer questions on such timely topics as hot to set up block watch associations, domestic violence, gang awareness; identity theft, and crime prevention National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watches. The event is expected to attract more than 30 million people nationwide. The idea of the program has evolved into fostering a partnership between local law enforcement and the community residents. By working in concert, crime can be reduced and the quality of life that a community enjoys improved. Chief Parenti said: “National Night Out is an opportunity to bring together the community residents and members of the public safety community in an informative and fun manner.”
